Our Opinion

Shopify is one of the world’s most popular ecommerce platforms, offering several different tiers of functionality with equally tiered pricing. With Basic/Standard/Pro packages costing £29/£79/229 you only get what you pay for

And that isn’t an awful lot.

Yes, being in the business for 15 years means they have successfully built up a bucketload of paid templates and a growing community of plugins too; but that’s a sly way of increasing costs after the initial sign-up. Many merchants report paying 150% more than the base price to run their store.

Lack of Native Features

Shopify is another platform to fundamentally hold back any growing eCommerce business. The lower level packages lack proper categorisation, no ability to build additional websites natively, and financially penalise you for choosing an alternative payment gateway to their own.

They are another platform that also limits the amount of users you can have operating the platform – 2/5/15 users across the three main levels.

It’s only once you can somehow afford Shopify Plus on £24,000 per year that you get real powerful functionality – like multiple sites for example.
